Programme Monitoring And Implementation Unit

Government of the Punjab as well as donors had learnt many lessons from the failure of Social Action Programme. One of the lessons was absence of dedicated counterpart team in the Provincial Governments to undertake interventions and to ensure timely implementation and monitoring. Therefore, at the very start of the Punjab Education Sector Reform Programme, Programme Monitoring & Implementation Unit was created with lean but fully dedicated setup for undertaking the programme.

Handpicked officers were posted in the PMIU to overcome the generic capacity gap in the Government. Apart from the PMIU, Government also created Provincial Steering Committee (PSC) for Punjab Education Sector Reform Programme to steer activities and troubleshoot the bottlenecks. Complete political ownership by the Chief Minister coupled with effective steering by the steering committee and dedicated work by the PMIU resulted in unprecedented success in terms of intervention implementation and monitoring of activities under PESRP. Each activity has been meticulously designed and rigorously implemented on the basis of automated data collected. With automation of school data across the province, data driven decision support systems have been made available to the highest policy makers in the province.
